About the ASAM

The Alternative Schools Accountability Model (ASAM) is the California Department of Education’s accountability system for alternative schools. The ASAM provides school-level accountability for approximately 1,000 alternative schools in California serving very high risk, highly mobile students.

  • About the ASAM Reporting System

Beginning with the collection of 2008-09 data (collection period is from June 2009 through October 2009), ASAM schools will use the ASAM Reporting System (ARS) to report both school-level data (e.g., annual enrollment data, aggregate attendance numbers, suspension rates, etc.) and student-level data (e.g., individual student pre- and post-test results for writing, reading, and/or math achievement). In past years, depending on the indicators on which a school reported, it was sometimes necessary to report data to two databases—the Online Reporting System (ORS) and the Pre-Post Assessment Tracking and Reporting System (PATRS). The new ARS site was developed so that ASAM schools could report all their data using only one site.

If you have questions about reporting data or the ARS, please click on the Frequently Asked Questions or the Other Resources links below, the Help tab above, or contact the WestEd ASAM Call Center for assistance at 866-665-3627 or by e-mail at asam@wested.org.
